Understanding and Setting Up a Forwarding Number for Calls and Messages
Understanding and Setting Up a Forwarding Number for Calls and Messages
Summary: A forwarding number lets you receive calls and, if you choose, text replies from your Brokerkit number on your
personal device. You can also choose email or in-app notifications for text replies to reduce text-segment usage.
What Is a Forwarding Number?
A forwarding number is your personal phone number where Brokerkit can forward incoming calls and contact text replies
from your Brokerkit number. It lets you stay connected without needing to be logged in to Brokerkit.
Set Up or Change Your Forwarding Number
1. Sign in to Brokerkit.
2. Click your name in the top-right corner.
3. Select Phone Number.
4. Enter or update the personal phone number where you want to receive forwarded calls and, if enabled, text replies.
5. Save your changes.
Choose How You Receive Text Replies
Text-reply notifications are controlled separately from your forwarding number. You can receive a contact's reply by
email, as an in-app bell notification, or as a forwarded text to your personal phone.
To change this setting:
1. Go to User Settings.
2. Open the Notifications tab.
3. Scroll to Messaging Engagement.
4. Find the Text Replies row.
5. Check Emails to receive replies by email.
6. Clear Text if you do not want replies forwarded to your personal phone.
7. Click Update Notifications.
You can keep Bell enabled as well to see the notification inside Brokerkit.
Reduce Text-Segment Usage
Receiving text replies by email instead of text can reduce your text usage. When a contact reply is forwarded to your
phone as a text, that forwarded notification uses text segments. If you reply from that forwarded text thread, your
reply also uses text segments.
Switching Text Replies to Emails avoids those additional forwarding and phone-reply segments. It does not change the
segments used by the contact's original inbound reply, which is still recorded on the contact's Brokerkit profile.
When to Use Text Forwarding
Text forwarding can be helpful when you need to manage live conversations from your phone. For high-volume recruiting,
email notifications are often a better fit because they keep you informed without adding forwarding and phone-reply
segment usage.

If a Newly Assigned Brokerkit Number Is Labeled Spam
A newly assigned number can occasionally have a reputation issue from a previous user. Place a test call shortly after
selecting the number. If the call is displayed as spam, release that Brokerkit number from Phone Number and select a
replacement.
You do not need to register the number with Hiya. Brokerkit manages CNAM and voice-integrity monitoring through Twilio.
Link a Replacement Number to Verified Texting
Before sending texts from a replacement number, link it to your approved verified texting use case:
1. Go to Phone Number > Register for Verified Texting & Calling > Verified Texting.
2. Scroll to Numbers Available For Association.
3. Select the replacement number (or All Phone Numbers when appropriate).
4. Click Submit — not only Save — and allow about an hour for linking to complete.
